Everybody has heard about the Hermitage, the great collection of Western art in St. Petersburg. But far fewer people are familiar with the Russian Museum, one of the best collections of Russian art in the world, with a range that extends from the Middle Ages to the twenty-first century. Russian art in general is not particularly well known in the West. Yet, it is not possible to understand Russia without understanding Russian history, literature, and especially its art.

Dr. Marina Oborotova will take you on a special tour of the museum and show you its masterpieces. She will share with you some of the most important and interesting chapters of the history of Russian fine arts. Dr. Oborotova will compare the Russian Museum to the Tretyakov Gallery, the best rival collection of Russian art in the world. She will also address the question of how Russian art reflects & explains the “mysterious” Russian identity.
