The Albuquerque International Association is pleased to present a lecture by Dr. Carrie Hertz on the current exhibit at the Museum of International Folk Art entitled “Dressing with Purpose: Belonging and Resistance in Scandinavia”. Dr. Hertz will discuss her research as curator of the exhibit and author of the book of the same name.
Dr. Hertz is Curator of Textiles and Dress, the Museum of International Folk Art in Santa Fe, and curator of the MOIFA current exhibit “Dressing With Purpose.” Over the course of her career, Dr. Hertz has gained diverse experience working in art, ethnographic, local history, and historic house museums. Previously, she directed a community-based public folk arts program as the Curator of Folk Arts at the Castellani Art Museum of Niagara University in Western New York, where she also taught classes on folklore, material culture, and museum studies.
Her recent work explores the social, cultural, aesthetic, ethical, and political dimensions of dress and adornment. She holds a PhD in Folklore and an MA in arts administration from Indiana University.
