Amber Weeks, Immigration Attorney and Partner at Vrapi Weeks

AIA’s October lecture will feature immigration attorney Amber Weeks who will explain how the U.S. immigration system works and will examine changes to the U.S. immigration system under the current administration. Her presentation will provide an overview of family-based, employment-based, and humanitarian pathways to securing lawful immigration status in the United States. Ms. Weeks will also talk about immigration policy changes under the current administration and what things are set in law and cannot be changed by the Executive branch. Throughout the presentation, Ms. Weeks will highlight real-life examples of how the immigration system works and how policy changes impact immigrants and their employers in New Mexico. Ms. Weeks will also provide Know Your Rights information and resources for the journey ahead.

Amber L. Weeks is an immigration attorney and partner at the Vrapi Weeks law firm. Ms. Weeks currently serves as the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) liaison with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) in New Mexico. She previously served as the AILA liaison with Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) in New Mexico and on AILA national committees. Ms. Weeks has also taught as an adjunct professor at the University of New Mexico School of Law. Prior to becoming an immigration attorney, Ms. Weeks worked as a community organizer in Albuquerque’s International District.
